A Geopark is a territory with a unique geological heritage that has a strategy for its sustainable development. The Geoparks constitute a voluntary association of free cooperation sponsored by UNESCO. Since September 2006, Sobrarbe has been part of this association. The Sobrarbe region is characterized by a great diversity of terrain and geological structures.
The Architectural Heritage of the Ordesa National Park Surroundings is very extensive, being able to find everything from Megalithic constructions, such as the Tella Dolmen, to beautiful Medieval Villas, such as Oto, Ainsa, Abizanda… The Romanesque was also very widespread in the area. , where you can find Jewels of the Lombard Era such as Muro de Roda, Toledo de la Nata, Santa María de Ainsa or La Ruta de las 4 Hermitas de Tella.
And, of course, the Popular Architecture that spreads from Caserones de Piedra to the abundant small towns of the Region, some of them abandoned due to the construction of Marshes, such as Jánovas, Lavelilla and Lacort.
Sobrarbe also has a wide network of Exhibition Spaces and Museums, where you can learn about local customs and traditions, as well as an interesting Cultural Calendar, which highlights Festivals such as the Ainsa Castle, the “Conspiremus” Luthiers’ Fair, the Exhibition of Ethnographic Documentaries “Espiello” and Local Festivals.
